01. PRISM I

Entry 001 — First Light

A pulse. Unmistakably not from Earth. I followed color the way others follow sound. Landed at sunrise. The horizon didn't just glow, it refracted. As if the planet breathed light from the inside out. They came to greet me softly. No fanfare. Just warmth, and something almost musical in their voices. They said: we exist to bring light to the universe. I believed them. I am noting that I believed them immediately.

Entry 002 — The Glass Machine

They showed me the heart of everything. Towers of glass. Crystal funnels. Lenses the size of rooms. All of it humming, a frequency I felt before I heard it. The crystals power it all. Rare. Irreplaceable. Running out. They know how to turn light into something endless. They just don't know where the source begins. Their offer: Help us find more glass, and we'll share what Earth needs. A fair trade. Though I am already wondering, what does a civilization look like when its survival depends entirely on one material? I have not yet seen the answer. I am beginning to suspect every planet will ask me a version of this question.

Entry 003 — The Limit of Light

Here is what Prism cannot do: They cannot dream. No wandering. No symbols rising from darkness. No visions at the edge of sleep. Their world is radiant, ordered, precise, and completely blind to what lies beyond the knowable. When they spoke of it, something crossed their faces. Go where we cannot, they said. Find what light alone cannot see. I am leaving Prism now. Structured radiance behind me.

Ahead: a world where the border between dreaming and waking has almost entirely dissolved. I have been of this beauty, warned of this danger. In my experience, those two things tend to arrive together.
